What is it?…
Parks and Recreation’s largest and most vibrant program enjoy a covered-dish lunch and participate in activities like bingo, speakers, trips, holiday parties, crafts and other projects at its weekly meetings. For many seniors the program provides an environment where lasting friendships are developed.
Don’t expect the Silver Club to stay in Culpeper every week. The Club usually takes a trip every two months. Trips have included Cumberland Scenic Railroad, Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, Riverside Dinner Theater, Lunch Cruises, National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. and Graves Mountain Lodge. In addition to the larger trips, the Silver Citizens go on smaller trips to local sites of interest.
One way that the Silver Club stays informed
is through its speaker program. Over the past
year the group has heard presentations from
community organizations, police, businesses,
county officials, entertainers, historians,
authors, storytellers and other notable members
of the community.
Speaking of community, the
Silver Citizens play an active part within
the town and county of Culpeper. Many serve
the community as volunteers and mentors. As
a larger segment of the nation’s population heads into the autumn of their lives it’s
important for county governments to support programs
like the Silver Club. The benefits to its members and
the community-at-large are immense.
Now is the time to
recycle your expertise and life experience and
share it with others.
