CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES
The mission of the Culpeper County Criminal Justice Services Program is to increase public safety by providing probation services and sanctions that hold offenders accountable for their actions and reduce the risk of recidivism.

CJS serves the Culpeper County General District Court, the Culpeper County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, and the Culpeper County Circuit Court. The majority of the offenders placed on probation are from the Culpeper County General District Court. CJS also receives placements from other programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia that operate under the Comprehensive Community Corrections Act for Local Offenders.

CJS receives funding through a grant administered by the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS). DCJS administers general appropriation funds designated for the purpose of supporting the Comprehensive Community Corrections Act for Local Responsible Offenders. CJS must apply for a grant ontinuation yearly. CJS also receives local funding from the County of Culpeper.

Only county or city governments are eligible to receive grants through this program. The County Administrator is required to serve as the Project Administrator and the Director of Finance serves as the Fiscal Agent for this grant. The CJS Director serves as the Project Director.

The CJS Director and Local Probation Officers are members of the Virginia Community Criminal Justice Association (VCCJA). The VCCJA is a non-profit membership organization whose membership includes, local community corrections and pretrial services directors, staff, and other individuals involved with the criminal justice system. Our membership includes nearly 450 individuals and organizations representing all sectors of public safety and treatment providers.

The purpose of the VCCJA is to enhance public safety through the development and expansion of pretrial, community corrections and other criminal justice programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia, by providing a forum for the discussion and communication of ideas. All members of the Association shall be committed to the standards of excellence, integrity, and professionalism in the delivery of pretrial and community corrections services. www.vccja.org
