As an independent body appointed by the Circuit Court, the Board of Equalization (BOE) has the especial duty and responsibility of determining whether the Department of Real Estate Assessments (DREA) has equalized the assessments among property owners. The BOE has the power to increase, decrease, or keep the same assessment upon its review.
The Board of Equalization (BOE) is active during the period of the general reassessment in Culpeper County. Board of Equalization members are appointed by the Circuit Court after the completion of each reassessment. Members are composed of Culpeper County residents who are representative of the community. The term for the last Board of Equalization ended June 30, 2015.
